1) "Then I made a mistake." - Who made the mistake? Why did he call his action a mistake? Did he really make a mistake? How did the speaker get rid of his doubt?

Ans. The narrator in Ruskin Bond's short story, "The Eyes Have It", thought that he had made the mistake. • The narrator was blind. He was playing a guessing game. He was behaving with the girl as if he was not blind. He wanted to hide his blindness from her. In course of the conversation the narrator asked the girl how the outside looked like. Then he thought now the girl would easily understand that he could not see. He felt that it was a mistake to ask a foolish question like that.

The girl was blind. So she did not understand that the man was blind. But she also did not disclose (ডিসক্লোজ) that she was blind. She just casually asked him to look outside. So in fact there was no mistake on his part. . The girl immediately helped him to get rid of his doubt. She asked him to look out of the window.

2."You have an interesting face."-Who said this and to whom did she/he say? How did the person spoken to react? How did the speaker mend his/her comment?

Ans. The narrator in Ruskin Bond's 'The Eyes Have It' said this to his girl co-passenger in the train compartment. The speaker wanted to flatter the girl with this comment. He wanted to know the girl's looks, but he could not. He was completely blind. During the my conversation he remarked that the girl's face was an interesting one. The girl accepted this compliment with a clear, ringing laugh. But she added that she was used to hear about her 'pretty' face. The adjective 'interesting' was quite new to her.

. The blind narrator now knew that the girl had a pretty face and mended his comment by saying that an interesting face could also be a pretty face.

Ans. The narrator of Ruskin Bond's short story, The Eyes Have It, was asked by the girl about his destination. He said that he was going to Dehra and then to Mussoorie. The girl immediately expressed her deep love for Mussoorie. She loved the hills of Mussoorie. She thought that the hills ought to be seen especially in October. Then, calling on his memories the narrator also told her that October was the best time. In October, Mussoorie appears in quiet beauty. The tourists leave the hills and the roads remain quiet and almost deserted. The hills adorn themselves with wild dahlias. The sun is also delicious. At night one can sit in front of a log fire and enjoy a little brandy. Memories of this scenic (P) beauty probably made both of them nostalgic (নস্টালজিক) and reflective (রিফ্লেকটিভ). As a result the girl remained silent for sometime.
